Will Man Utd Choose New Right Back To Replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka?

Erik Ten Hag, the Manchester United manager, is tackling a substantial to-do list this summer. First on his agenda was securing a dynamic midfielder, which he found in Mason Mount, who recently transferred from Chelsea to Old Trafford. Now, Ten Hag is reportedly advocating for the signing of Andre Onana as a ball-playing goalkeeper.

Once Onana is onboard, Manchester United plans to pursue a new centre forward. Harry Kane was initially Ten Hag's preferred choice; however, Rasmus Hojlund, Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani have surfaced as more feasible options. United requires a more potent offensive force in front of the goal. To date, Manchester United has not been linked with a new right back. As it stands, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, both flawed in different ways, are set to share the position in Ten Hag's team next season. Why isn't United targeting a more complete player for the right side of their defence?

Dalot offers something in an attacking sense, but the Portuguese international isn’t always the most alert when defending his own goal. Wan-Bissaka is renowned as one of the best one-on-one defenders in the PremierPINC +0.6% League, yet the 25-year-old is limited in providing service in the opposition half.

Wan-Bissaka has improved under the stewardship of Ten Hag to the point that the Dutch coach appears content with starting the new season with the Englishman as his first-choice right back. Ten Hag has raised the performance levels of several players at Old Trafford and Wan-Bissaka is one of them.

“He has improved a lot, as many players have improved during the season,” said Ten Hag when asked about Wan-Bissaka. “That's one of the jobs for a manager and the coaching staff, to get that done and we are really happy with it, that players are developing.

“Always the team spirit is the base and if players understand that, if they can set their egos aside, then you will see that the team develops and progresses. And then within the team's progress, individuals make a lot of progress and Aaron is definitely one of them.”

Nonetheless, the addition of Mount, Onana and a new centre forward will highlight the deficiency Manchester United still have at right back. Ten Hag’s team is a work-in-progress and nobody expects them to challenge for a Premier League title next season. They might need to replace Wan-Bissaka and Dalot to achieve this.
