WhatsApp is introducing a new secret code feature

WhatsApp is in the process of developing a new feature that will enable users to safeguard their secured chats using a personalized password, according to a report by WABetaInfo. This innovation was spotted within the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.8 update, introducing a "Secret code" option.
Once activated, this feature will empower users to establish their own unique passwords for accessing locked chats, diverging from the conventional use of their phone's PIN or biometric authentication. In May 2023, WhatsApp had introduced the "Chat Lock" feature to bolster the security of sensitive conversations. Alongside concealing notifications for messages and media shared within these chats, the company announced plans to expand the feature with additional options, including custom password creation and locking for companion devices in the coming months. This dual authentication system will offer users greater control over their device's security, minimizing the risk of unauthorized access, especially when compared to malicious users who may have knowledge of the device's PIN. The release date for the Secret Code feature remains uncertain, but it is likely to debut among beta users before a wider rollout.
